General Questions
The basics — what the game is and how to get started.
What is The 12 Tribes™?
The 12 Tribes™ is a digital trading card game (TCG) featuring 1,886 named characters from the King James Bible and the Apocrypha. Build decks, summon biblical characters to the battlefield, and compete in strategic matches. Think of it like Pokémon cards, but with Moses, David, and angels instead. Check out our How to Play guide to learn more.
Is the game free to play?
You can explore the full card gallery, read all guides, and use the deck builder for free. Playing matches and accessing premium features requires a subscription. See our Pricing page for details on available plans.
Do I need to know the Bible to play?
Not at all! Every card has a summary that tells you who the character is and why they matter. You'll learn fascinating biblical stories just by playing. The game is designed to be approachable whether you've read the Bible cover to cover or have never opened one.
What platforms can I play on?
The 12 Tribes™ is a web-based game — you can play in any modern browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile. No downloads or installs needed.

Gameplay
How turns, combat, and winning actually work.
How does a turn work?
Each turn has 5 phases: Draw (draw a card), Faith (your Faith resource refreshes), Summon (play cards from your hand), Combat (attack with your characters), and End (turn passes). Our How to Play guide walks you through each phase in detail.
What is Faith and how do I get more?
Faith is the resource you spend to play cards — like mana, energy, or gold in other games. You generate Faith by playing Holy Site cards (one per turn). Each Holy Site adds Faith of its faction's color. Your Faith refreshes every turn, so you can spend it all without worry. Learn more on our Card Types page.
What is summoning sickness?
When you summon a Character, they can't attack on the same turn they arrive. They need one turn to "settle in." This is called summoning sickness. They can still block incoming attacks — they just can't charge into battle right away. Think of it like jet lag: they just arrived and need a turn to get ready.
How do I win a game?
Reduce your opponent's health from 30 to 0. You deal damage by attacking with Characters (either targeting their Characters or attacking directly if they have no defenders) and by using Miracles or abilities that deal direct damage.
What happens when my deck runs out of cards?
When you try to draw from an empty deck, you take fatigue damage instead. The damage increases each time — 1, then 2, then 3, and so on. This prevents games from lasting forever and rewards efficient play. Running out of cards is dangerous — plan ahead!

Cards & Decks
Building decks and understanding your collection.
How many cards are in the game?
The full collection includes 1,886 unique cards, each based on a named character from the King James Bible and the Apocrypha. This is one of the largest card pools in any TCG.
How many cards go in a deck?
A standard deck has 30 cards. You can include up to 2 copies of any card. The deck builder will help you stay within these limits and suggest cards that work well together.
What's the difference between the 5 card types?
Characters fight on the battlefield. Holy Sites generate Faith (your resource). Miracles are one-time effects. Artifacts are permanent equipment. Covenants are ongoing rules. For a full breakdown with examples, visit our Card Types Guide.
Can I mix factions in one deck?
Yes! Most competitive decks use two factions to cover each other's weaknesses. Just remember you'll need the right-colored Holy Sites to generate Faith for each faction's cards. Sticking to 2 factions (plus a splash of Divine) is the sweet spot. See our Factions Guide for recommended combos.
Can I share my deck with friends?
Absolutely! Each public deck gets a unique share code. Send the link to anyone and they can view your deck, or use it as a starting point for their own. Toggle your deck to "public" in the deck builder to generate a share link.
